Norman Barrow

Treasurer & Director

When at the tender age of six Norman was made the conductor of his primary school percussion band little did he know that he was going to make a career in the Music industry. He started playing the guitar at thirteen and when one of his friends acquired one of the first electric guitars in Barbados, he subsequently formed and played with two bands, The Lucky Seven and the Silhouettes the latter becoming a household name as they made records and backed many of the established artists of the time. The thought of being a professional musician at that time was not an option and as result gave up playing and went on to his second love Architecture. While pursuing this, the urge to play again led to the formation of The Sandpebbles. After a year the group was offered a two week tour to Bermuda. To be able to do this he had to resign his job. This led not only to career as a professional musician but also as a pioneer in the music, entertainment and cultural industry of Barbados and the Caribbean and also made regular tours to Canada, USA and England.

He was one of the driving forces in the development of Spouge music as he was able to convince his fellow band members that this was the way to go and as a result produced many hit songs. He developed his skills not only as a Musician but as a Recording & Live sound engineer, record producer, artist manager, concert and show promoter. In the early seventies he started his present company A & B Music as a musical instrument distributor. Today the company has grown and expanded to also become one of the leading musical instrument distributors. Today the company has grown and expanded to also become the leading professional audio and sound company in not only Barbados but also Caribbean with the ability to offer services to any artist in the World. They have provided products and services to many of the regional Festivals including the sound system for the late Pope John Paul’s II visit to St. Lucia.

Norman has always been a strong supporter and sponsor in the organisation of the local music industry and firmly believes that this is key in the development of the cultural industries offering a viable option for employment and economic growth. He is involved in community work as a member of the Rotary Club of Barbados and served as President and is also a founding member of the Substance Abuse Foundation of Barbados which operates the Verdun House rehabilitation centre and is its present Chairman.
