Members Informational Circular

  • Changes to Distribution Rules
Members are advised that following the 6th Annual General Meeting, the draft distribution rules as distributed were adopted.
The final version of these rules is being prepared for print and will be distributed to all members. However, it is important to note one of the major changes which concern the payment of Unallocated Performances Allowance (UPA). The UPA was initially paid by the Barbados Agency for Musical Culture Incorporated (BAMCI) over the years to all of its performer and producer members as compensation for those performances not identified in programme logs.
These payments have continued over the years. However, COSCAP has been reviewing this practice as it has ultimately resulted in a large proportion of royalties which would otherwise be distributed to those members whose works are actively used being shared to members whose works are inactive. The term inactive refers particularly to those situations where members have very few recordings (usually one or two) and who have not had anynew releases within the past few years.
It is unsustainable to indiscriminately pay every performer and producer member UPA and therefore, these payments will only be made to performer and producer members who have earned at least $50.00 in royalties within the past three years (excluding UPA payments).
    Reminders

    • Submission of Email Addresses
Please provide COSCAP with your email addresses which will allow you to receive information in a more effective manner.
    • Banking Information
COSCAP is transferring to electronic banking in order to increase the efficiency of the distribution process. Therefore, royalties will be paid directly to bank/credit card accounts.
Members are asked to complete the COSCAP Banking Information Form and return it to the office as soon as possible. You should also advise COSCAP immediately of any relevant changes in address & contact information.
    • Notification Forms
Once again we remind members to complete and return your notification of works forms promptly. It is important that all parties sign off on these forms to show agreement as otherwise, if a conflicting form is later provided; it may result in the suspension of royalty payments until the conflict is resolved.
Remember! The only source of ownership information is through the submission of notification of works forms.
    • Overseas Live Performances
Members are advised that live performance sheets should be submitted to COSCAP for overseas performances, just as you would for local performances. COSCAP will advise sister societies of these performances and try to secure royalties. However, it is important that you advise of these performances in advance so that efforts can be made to ensure that the events have been licensed.
